LA Homeless Facts

It can be so easy to judge when you see a homeless person. “Why can’t they just get their act together?” “Don’t give them any money, cause they’ll just use it for alcohol or drugs.”

Yes, that can be true in some cases, but not all. It’s important to understand just what is going on in Los Angeles and what our friends are experiencing.

About LA

How Many

It’s tough out there, in so many ways. Temperatures can dip down into the 40’s in Los Angeles at times in the winter, and the summers can get into the hundreds.

Bottom line, the homeless are dying out there on the streets. That is a hard cold fact and one people tend to turn their heads on. They’re dying on bus benches, hillsides, railroad tracks, alleyways, parking lots, riverbeds, sidewalks and even freeway on-ramps. Deaths have jumped 76% in the past 5 years!

This is why we do what we do. We have chosen to NOT turn our heads! How can we?

We know we can’t solve the homeless problem, but we certainly can be a part of helping in some way. In fact, anyone can be a part of helping this situation. Even if you can’t donate, you could help bag care packages or just forward this website to a friend who may be able to help.

It's Not Always What You Think

People have the misconception that homeless people are all drug addicts and alcoholics. But there are many reasons that factor into homelessness. Yes, substance abuse makes up some of the reasons, but there’s also many dealing with mental issues, domestic violence, lack of family ties and support network, and poverty is the overwhelming factor. Open your mind to the fact that sometimes, people just fall down on their luck without any fault in it.

Veterans, Women & Children

About 20% of the population here are veterans. And sadly, the number of women and children living on Skid Row has more than doubled in the last year!

Knowing that our veterans…the very people who served our country are living like this on the streets is mind blowing. And to see women and children living in such dangerous situations is heartbreaking as well. And unacceptable.
